Google marks the start of Winter Season with its new snowy doodle celebrating Winter Solstice
21st December marked as Google Doodle Winter Solstice 2021, stating that on this particular day the sun travels the sky through the shortest path, marking the minimum daylight and the longest night of the year.
In various parts of the world and India, the temperature has fallen and marked the beginning of the winter Google unveiled its animated doodle featuring a hedgehog in the snow.

Winter Solstice is on 21st December, which marks the start of the winter season which kicks starts in the northern hemisphere up till 20th March 2022.

The world winter is derived from an old Germanic word meaning ‘time of water’ as per Britannica. The word is winter is then referred to in middle and high latitudes to the rain and snow.
Also known as hibernal solstice, winter solstice mentions two events during a year, when the sun’s path in the sky is the farthest south in the Northern Hemisphere i.e in 21st December, and farthest north in the Southern Hemisphere i.e on 20th 21st June.

On 21st December when the sun travels the shortest path through the sky, on the winter solstice the day witnesses the minimum daylight and the longest night.vOn Monday, Delhi marked its minimum temperature at the Safdarjung Observatory, which is considered the official marker for the nation's capital. Delhi was swept by the cold wave where the temperature dropped to 3.2 degrees Celsius which is the lowest recorded temperature of this season.

In northwest India, cold waves are likely to get intense in the coming two days as per India’s Meteorological Department (IMD). There will be no relief in the coming three days from the cold waves as they will continue to hit central and east India.
Talking about Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday the 40 harshest days of winter in the state began and will be over on 31st January better known as Chillai Kalan. With the start of Chillai Kalam, the people witnessed frozen water bodies and taps with valleys gripped strongly by the cold waves and minimum temperature below freezing point.
