Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism and one of the most celebrated Sikh gurus, is highly revered by the Sikh community. Every year on Guru Nanak Jayanti, the anniversary of his birth is commemorated. The day begins with a 'Akhand Path,' in which a 48-hour long verse from the holy Guru Granth Sahib is recited across various Gurudwaras. This year, the auspicious day falls on November 19.
Prabhat pheris is the first thing which starts the Gurpurab celebrations. The early morning processions, known as prabhat pheris, begin at the gurudwaras and proceed to the localities, with devotees singing hymns. Panj pyaras, or the five beloved ones, lead it. They carry the Nishan Sahib and the Palki of Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh flag. The Akhand Path, a 48-hour non-stop reading of Guru Granth Sahib, takes place in the gurdwaras before Gurpurab.
Here we have penned some of the unique wishes you can send to the loved ones on this auspicious occasion.
