Hollywood's one of the most coveted award, Tony Awards 2023 happened at the United Palace in New York City on June 11, 2023. The broadway's biggest night has given some of the most wonderful receiver of the prestigious accolade under numerous nominations. Among the many, Jodie Comer was one higlight of the evening. Jodie won Tony Awards for Best Actress in a play for leading role in 'Prima Facie.'
About the award winning character
Miss Comer played the role of a lawyer named Tessa Ensler in 'Prima Facie' where she deals with the clients under patriarchal de-morals. The official synopsis states, "Tessa is a young brilliant barrister. From working class origins, she has reached the top of her game." It further adds on and quotes, "An unexpected event forces her to confront the lines where the patriarchal power of the law, burden of proof and morals diverge."
Jodie's emotional speech
While receiving the award at the stage, Comer was seen getting emotional and thanked the creator crews of the movie. She stated, the character of Ensla has been her 'Greatest Teacher' and elated her heartfelt feelings, 'This has been my greatest honor, and it continues to be these three weeks left." She further thanked playwright Sussie Miller for penning down a magnificent creation as such. Her emotional filled in speech also continued with her true feelings about her moving character in 'Prima Facie.' She adds on while saying "I don't necessarily feel the need to speak about, but I feel like a woman. I feel like I've stepped into my womanhood." Miss Comer clearly confessed how Tessa's character molded her self realization of a more valuable existence.
