Legendary athlete Milkha Singh passes away at 91 after a long battle with Covid-19 complications

The legendary athlete Milkha Singh died on Friday after a a long battle with Covid-19. Milkha Singh turned critical on Friday evening when he developed complications due to fever and dipping of oxygen levels after getting recovered Covid.

After contracting with Covid-19 last month, Milkha was tested negative on Wednesday when he was shifted to general ICU of the PGIMER hospital. The legendary athlete was admitted to PGIMER on June 3 after the complications of dipping the oxygen levels.

Milkha Singh is a four-time Asian Games gold medalist and the 1958 Commonwealth Games champion but his greatest performance remains the fourth-place finish in the 400m final of the 1960 Rome Olympics.

He also represented India in the 1956 and 1964 Olympics and was bestowed the Padma Shri in 1959.

On Sunday, Milkha Singh’s wife Nirmal who has also been affected with Covid-19 passed away at a private hospital in Mohali.
