'Who Killed Moosewala' by Jupinderjit Singh, Dives Deep into Singer's Mysterious Murder

A book titled "Who Killed Moosewala?" was published more than a year after the assassination of well-known Punjabi musician Sidhu Moosewala, and it makes an effort to shed light on the artist, his demise, the murder investigation, the perpetrators of the crime, and the growing turmoil in Punjab.

The book by Jupinderjit Singh, a crime reporter for an English daily, was published on June 5. It also provides readers with information about the gangs in Punjab and the state's rising violence.

I was deeply affected by Sidhu Moosewala's murder. For more than 20 years, I have covered violent crimes, terrorist attacks, and police contacts. I have seen dismembered bodies and reported on these things. However, this cruel killing shocked me to my very core, especially after I saw images of his devastated parents, Singh added.

When the Punjabi hip-hop sensation was shot by six armed assailants on May 29, 2022, he was on his way to his aunt's home in Jawaharke Village. The book examines the events of that day. The book took cautious research, hours spent reading over horrific details, and a deep dive into the internal workings of crime scenes, killers, and gangsters, according to Singh. "While reporting on it, I felt that news stories were not going to be enough and I decided to write this book," Singh said.

According to Singh, who was speaking about the murder of Moosewala, "The news of his death spread like wildfire. To pay their final respects, fans flocked to his village in the Mansa district. Others expressed their grief online. The rebellious young man had been a contentious figure but an icon for many.

There were speculations that he was associated with specific gangs and accusations that he supported gun culture and violence. Questions about his life, as well as those surrounding it, grew louder with his untimely and violent death. Who had Moosewala slain? All of them were curious.

Singh, who is a fellow with the Centre for Science and Environment and a FIDE-rated chess player and coach, claimed that his motivation for doing so was "a desire to shed light on the murder that reminds us all of the fragility of life."

The publisher of the book, Westland Books, whose executive editor is Sanghamitra Biswas, stated that Jupinderjit Singh has been extensively covering both the crime and the inquiry since Sidhu Moosewala's passing a year ago. His knowledge of the facts is thorough and solid.

Singh, who is also a motivational speaker, has written five books, two of which have been translated into Hindi. He is renowned for finding Shaheed Bhagat Singh's lost pistol, which was used to murder a British police officer in 1928. 'Butchered For Love,' a book about the honour killing of a woman by the name of Jassi and the anguish of her husband Mithu, is one of the books that Singh has written. In June 2000, Jassi was murdered.
