Yo Yo Honey Singh reveals Bipolar Disorder left him bald after years of heavy medication
Honey Singh on bipolar disorder: Indian rapper and singer Yo Yo Honey Singh has spoken openly about his painful battle with bipolar disorder and how years of medication affected both his mental and physical health. During a recent interview, the singer shared how he struggled with fear, addiction, and isolation at the peak of his career.
Honey Singh revealed that he became seriously ill in 2014 after spending years addicted to drugs. He admitted that although he was not using hard drugs, he had been smoking hashish heavily from 2012 to 2014 and did not realize how much control it had taken over his life.

“I got sick in 2014. I had been addicted to drugs for a very long time, from 2012 to 2014. They weren’t hard drugs, but hashish and all that stuff. I used to smoke a lot, and I didn’t realize they were controlling me and taking over me,” he said.
At that time, Honey Singh was at the peak of his career. He said he had been touring the world with Shah Rukh Khan, hosting a music reality show, serving as a judge, and shooting a Punjabi film.
“Everything in my life was going perfectly. I was Yo Yo Honey Singh, the biggest pop star in India at that time. But then I started suffering from symptoms of bipolar disorder,” the singer shared.

He explained that the illness filled his mind with fear, doubt, and destructive thoughts.
“It starts with doubt doubting everything, and fearing death. Fear of death, fear of people,” he said.
Honey Singh also revealed how severe the condition became during the darkest phase of his life. According to the singer, he spent nearly three years locked inside his bedroom because of constant fear and anxiety.
“For three years, I didn’t step out of my bedroom. Even while taking a shower, I used to keep the bathroom door open because I was scared I would die,” he revealed.
The singer added that bipolar disorder pushed him into thoughts that felt real even when they were not.
“Bipolar disorder takes you into destructive thoughts that are not real, but it makes you feel like they are actually happening,” he said.
During the interview, Honey Singh candidly spoke about the physical effects of the medication he had taken for seven years. He revealed that the medicines caused major weight gain and complete hair loss.
“I was on heavy medication for seven years. I became 105 kilos because of it, and I lost my hair completely. This is fake hair, I am totally bald. This is a wig,” he admitted.
The singer explained that the hair he currently wears is a hair system and not his natural hair.
Honey Singh also reflected on how his family encouraged him to turn towards spirituality during his illness. He admitted that he initially rejected those beliefs and felt he had achieved everything on his own.
However, after years of suffering, the singer said he eventually apologized to God and began respecting spirituality.
“Okay Lord, first of all, I’m sorry. I disrespected You, and I didn’t believe in You. Now, whoever You are, whatever Your name is, whatever form You take, I will start respecting You,” he recalled saying during that difficult period.
The singer further admitted that at one point he became so mentally exhausted that he prayed for death because he could no longer control what was happening inside him.
Honey Singh shared that his recovery finally started after he decided to leave his house and consult a new doctor. According to him, changing medicines and adjusting dosages helped him improve within weeks.
“I was on the same medication for seven years and still wasn’t getting cured. But when I finally decided to step out of my house, I also changed my doctor,” he said.

“I started recovering within four weeks. In just four weeks, I started meeting people and facing life again,” he added.
Even after quitting drugs in 2014, Honey Singh said recovery remained a slow and painful journey.
“You won’t believe it, but even after I stopped doing drugs in 2014, it still took me seven to eight years to recover,” he revealed.
At the height of his fame in the early 2010s, Honey Singh became one of the biggest names in commercial Punjabi and Bollywood music before suddenly disappearing from public life because of his mental health struggles.
After years away from the spotlight, the singer gradually returned to music with songs like Makhna and albums including Honey 3.0 and Glory.
