Nambi Narayanan is an Indian aerospace engineer who worked at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Born on born December 12, 1941, Nambi was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2019. He was known to develop the Vikas engine that would be used for the first PSLV that India launched. In ISRO, he was the in-charge of the cryogenics division.
In 1994, the scientist Nambi Narayanan was leading the space agency’s cryogenic rocket engine project, which obtained the technology from Russia. Then one day, he was arrested suddenly. He was produced before the court and formally arrested.

Nambi was allegedly accused of sharing private information about India’s space programme with Maldivian nationals. These Maldivians allegedly sold the information about ISRO’s rocket engines to Pakistan. After this, Nambi was kept in judicial custody for 11 days and was accused of violating India’s secret laws, corruption, and other offences.
In fact, there were reports that he was tortured under inhuman conditions. He even went through the lie-detecting test but the report was never submitted before the court.
