Shahid Kapoor-starrer 'Jersey' pushed back due to an increase in Covid-19 cases
The new variant of Covid-19- Omicron is on the verge to affect the nation once again. As the cases increase in India; numerous state government has announced restriction in the movements of the public. Keeping that in view the makers of the film Jersey had announced to shift the release date of the film.

Jersey's producers and Shahid Kapoor took to their respective social media accounts to officially announce that the film has been shifted from its release from December 31st due to the rise in COVID-19.

"In view of the current circumstances and new Covid guidelines, we as a team, feel it is prudent to postpone the release of Jersey. We will see you as soon as we can with our film in 2022. Wishing everyone a happy and healthy new year."
Earlier, the film was set to be released on August 28. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, however, it was moved. The film's release date was then pushed to this year's December 31. As of right now, there is no word about the new date by the makers of the film.

The film highlights the story of a cricketer who joins the Indian cricket team after retiring from the sport in his 30s. It's a remake of the same-named Telugu movie from 2019. The film will be directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri (who also directed the original) and also stars Mrunal Thakur and Shahid Kapoor's father Pankaj Kapur as his coach.

The original film Jersey released in Telugu was nominated for two National Awards: Best Telugu Film and Best Editor.
Shahid Kapoor was last seen in Kabir Singh alongside Kiara Advani in 2019.
