Sonu Sood steps down as Punjab State Icon before Punjab Elections 2022; details inside

Bollywood actor Sonu Sood is no longer the Election Commission's voting icon His appointment has been canceled by the Election Commission. Sonu Sood was named Punjab's state icon in order to enhance voter participation.

The actor's title as a Punjab State Icon has been withdrawn by the Commission. ECI appointed actors on November 16th, 2021, and they were formally dismissed on January 4th, 2022. Chief Electoral Officer (Punjab CEO) S Karuna Raju, the Punjab CEO, has provided this information.

ECI withdrew the appointment on January 4, according to reports. On December 10, 2021, the Punjab CEO wrote to ECI, requesting that the actor be removed from his role as a Punjab State Icon. Sonu Sood, has also expressed his thoughts on the matter.

"Like all good things, this journey has come to an end too.I've voluntarily stepped down as the State Icon of Punjab.This decision was mutually taken by me and EC in light of my family member contesting in Punjab Assembly Elections. I wish them luck for future endeavours" wrote Sonu Sood.

Sonu Sood refers to her younger sister in this tweet. Malvika Sood, his sister, will be competing this year. In a press conference in Moga, he had shared the information himself. There were speculations earlier this year that the actor may join a political party. He had already met Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister Delhi. However, he is not affiliated with any political party at the moment.
