Sri Devi: The Veteran Actress Will Get Her Statue Installed In Switzerland

Sri Devi to get her statue installed in Switzerland as a honor from the government of the country. Bollywood actresses superhit movie ‘Chandni’ was shot at the picturesque locations in Switzerland. The statue of renowned filmmaker, Yash Chopra, was also unveiled in Interlaken in 2016.

Many of the films of Yash Chopra featured Switzerland as a backdrop and he is credited for boosting the popularity of Alpine nation among Indian tourists. Now considering the role played by the veteran actress in promoting country’s tourism, there is a proposal to honor her by laying her statue there.

The blockbuster hit movie ‘Chandni’ featuring Sri Devi played a very important role in popularizing the picturesque locations of Switzerland. Most of the songs and dance sequences in the film had a Swiss backdrop.

Raj Kapoor’s film ‘Sangam’ released in 1964 was the first Indian film shot in Switzerland, which was followed by ‘An Evening in Paris’ in 1967. Since then Switzerland became one of the favorite locations for Bollywood movies.

For the tourists who happen to be cinema fanatics, Switzerland offers a provision to arrange Bollywood packaged trips. The government of Interlaken has also awarded Yash Chopra with the honorary title of Ambassador of Intelaken. The country also has a train named after him.

Now, its Sri Devi’s turn who will get her statue installed in the country. The veteran actress died at the age of 55 due to accidental drowning in Dubai earlier this year.
