Tennis Player Sania Mirza announces her retirement; says 'I think my body is wearing down'

Sania Mirza, an Indian tennis sensation, is set to retire soon. By the end of this season, her career will be over. After losing in the first round of the Australian Open 2022 women's doubles, she made the decision. Sania, 35, is a Hyderabad native who retired from singles in 2013. She could not even withstand one hour and 37 minutes with her Ukrainian partner, Nadia Kichnok.

After giving birth to a boy in March 2019, Sania returned to tennis, but the coronavirus pandemic impeded her progress. Sania said in a post-match press conference, "There are a lot of reasons behind this." It isn't as straightforward as that.

“There are a bunch of reasons for it. It’s not as simple as ‘okay I’m not going to play. I do feel my recovery is taking longer, I do feel, considering my son is three years old, I’m putting him at risk by traveling so much with him, that’s something I have to take into account," Mirza said at the post-match press conference.

Sania Mirza said, "My body is also getting weak now. My knee hurts a lot today. I am not saying that it is because of this that we lose, but I feel that it is taking me a while to recover as I am getting older.

As soon as Sania announced about ending her tremendous journey as a Tennis Player, numerous Bollywood celebs expressed their gratitude to Sania for her contribution to the sport. Arjun Kapoor shared a story and mentioned that she is in inspiration whereas, Ranveer Singh simply called her 'Queen'.

Sania Mirza announced her retirement after losing in the first round of the Australian Open women's doubles with partner Nadiia Kichenok.
