Vivek Agnihotri Criticizes Outrageous Free Release of Shahid Kapoor's Film 'Bloody Daddy' on OTT Platform
Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has raised concerns about the recent release of Shahid Kapoor's latest film, 'Bloody Daddy,' on OTT (Over-The-Top) platforms without any cost. The movie made its debut on Jio Cinema on June 9, granting viewers free access to watch it. However, Vivek Agnihotri holds a negative perspective on this approach, considering it an outrageous business model that could potentially contribute to the downfall of the Bollywood industry.
Why would anyone show a 200 cr film for free? What’s this insane business model? Sad news is that Bollywood is celebrating its own destruction. pic.twitter.com/OcpQyfgCEE

Taking to his Twitter account, Vivek expressed his discontent with the free streaming of 'Bloody Daddy.' He shared an advertisement from a newspaper and posed a thought-provoking question, "Why would anyone showcase a 200 crore film for free? What sort of absurd business model is this?" Through his words, he conveyed a deep sense of dismay, suggesting that the Bollywood industry itself appears to be reveling in its own demise.
In response to Vivek's concerns, one user explained the business model adopted by Jio. They highlighted that Jio initially offers free services, such as data and calls, for a certain period to attract a large customer base. Subsequently, they begin charging a nominal fee to retain customers. This strategy is expected to influence other OTT platforms to reduce their charges and generate revenue through advertisements. Ultimately, the user predicted that the OTT landscape, originally known for its ad-free nature, may transform into a platform resembling traditional television.
This is Jio's business model. They'll give everything free for few/several months to increase the customer base. Later they'll start charging minimal fee to retain the customers. Soon other OTT platforms too will have no option but to charge less to customers and generate revenue…

Another user chimed in, drawing parallels to Jio's past endeavors in the telecommunications industry. They pointed out how Jio revolutionized the market by providing free data and unlimited calls for an extended period, prompting other telecom companies to adapt their pricing structures. The user predicted a similar shift in the OTT industry, with Jio Cinema offering free content initially and eventually changing the dynamics of the market. They further speculated that well-established platforms like Netflix might be compelled to follow suit or risk fading away like certain telecom providers.
Have always felt - and even told him - that #ShahidKapoor should act in an out-and-out actioner… The actor - known for his ability to portray a wide range of characters - gets into the #JohnWick mode in #BloodyDaddy, his first collaboration with director #AliAbbasZafar.… pic.twitter.com/pKdKhKcmzS
