Bomman and Belli pose with the Oscar: Fans rejoice for deserving winners

The Elephant Whisperers is a short documentary that showcases the love and care provided by Bomman and Belli in nurturing abandoned baby elephants at the Theppakkadu Elephant Camp in the Nilgiris District. The film highlights the special bond that the tribal caretakers share with the elephants, specifically two calves, Raghu and Ammu.
Director Kartiki Gonsalves shared the backstory behind the film, stating that it all started when she saw Raghu, a tiny baby elephant, walking alongside the road holding onto Bomman's hand. She was immediately drawn to the calf and wanted to experience what it was like to be close to it. This led to her joining the couple and ultimately resulted in the making of The Elephant Whisperers.
The film's win at the Oscars made history, as it became the first Indian production to win in the Documentary Short Subject category. Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin felicitated Bomman and Belli for their achievement and presented them with cheques, shields, and shawls. Recently, Kartiki Gonsalves was also honoured with a cash prize of ₹one crore, a memento, a cape, and a certificate of commendation by the chief minister.
The Elephant Whisperers have touched the hearts of many with their depiction of the beautiful relationship between elephants and humans.
