Mysore Pak Earns Global Acclaim: Taste Atlas Ranks It Among Top 50 Street Foods Worldwide

In a proud moment for India's culinary legacy, Mysore Pak, the beloved and delectable Indian sweet, has been bestowed with international acclaim by Taste Atlas. The esteemed food-based magazine, renowned for its comprehensive street food reviews from around the world, has ranked Mysore Pak at an impressive 14th position in its coveted Top 50 list of the finest street food sweets.

Mysore Pak's journey from the royal kitchens of the Mysore Palace to global recognition has been nothing short of remarkable. A true delight for the taste buds of Kannadigas and South Indians, this traditional dessert has earned a rating of 4.4, a testament to its widespread popularity and flavor.

The fascinating origin of Mysore Pak traces back to 90 years ago when the skilled royal chef, Madappa, of the Wodeyar kingdom in Mysuru, concocted a genius mixture of sugar, ghee, and peanut flour. This innovative sweet dish won the heart of the then-king, Krishna Raja Wadiyar, during a dinner at the palace, establishing Mysore Pak as an exquisite royal delicacy.

Among the three Indian desserts featured on Taste Atlas' prestigious list, Mysore Pak is joined by the delightful Kulfi, securing the 18th spot with a rating of 4.3, and the scrumptious Falooda, taking the 32nd place with a rating of 4.0. These rankings affirm India's rich culinary heritage and its unique contribution to the world of street food sweets.

Celebrating this momentous recognition, DK Shivakumar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, took to Twitter to express his delight and pride in Mysore Pak's global acclaim. Fondly reminiscing about his childhood memories of savoring Mysore Pak with family, Shivakumar emphasized the sweet's deep-rooted connection with Kannadigas and Karnataka.

Although historical narratives suggest a competing claim about Mysore Pak's origin, with some attributing its creation to Tamil Nadu, DK Shivakumar firmly asserts the sweet's rightful belonging to Karnataka. Crediting the tireless efforts and culinary skills of countless chefs who have elevated Mysore Pak to a household name, he reaffirms its birthplace in the iconic Mysore Palace.

The recognition of Mysore Pak on the world stage not only celebrates India's diverse gastronomic culture but also highlights the universal fondness for Indian street food sweets across the globe. With its rich heritage, delightful taste, and global appeal, Mysore Pak continues to win hearts and tantalize the taste buds of food enthusiasts worldwide.
