Neena Gupta Opens Up About Challenging Kissing Scene on Indian Television

Neena shared that during her stint on a television serial, she found herself facing an unexpected challenge—a kissing scene with her co-star. In her characteristic honesty, she admitted to being unprepared, both mentally and physically, for such an intimate scene. However, she decided to view it as a personal test of her abilities. Despite her initial reservations, Neena courageously proceeded with the scene, although she felt the need to cleanse her mouth afterward using mouthwash.
The significance of this scene lies in the fact that, if it hadn't been removed, it would have marked the first-ever kissing scene on Indian television. In a conversation with Instant Bollywood, Neena Gupta shared, "If this scene hadn't been cut, it would have been the first kissing scene on TV. It's a tale from decades ago when I had to perform a lip lock scene with my co-star Dilip Dhawan in the serial 'Dillagi.'"
Reflecting on her mindset at the time, Neena Gupta revealed, "I didn't have a personal relationship with him. Mentally and physically, I wasn't prepared for this scene. I was feeling incredibly nervous. I couldn't even sleep the night before. After the scene, I meticulously cleaned my mouth with mouthwash," she further explained.
Despite her initial reservations and trepidation, Neena Gupta managed to gather her resolve. She reminded herself that, as an actor, it was her duty to perform a wide range of scenes, from laughter to tears. Therefore, she embraced the kissing scene as a personal challenge—an opportunity to test her versatility and push her boundaries.
"I went ahead and executed the kissing scene, but promptly after that, I diligently cleansed my mouth using mouthwash. It was indeed a demanding task for me to kiss someone for whom I had no romantic feelings," she concluded, highlighting the professionalism and commitment she displayed in her craft.
Neena Gupta's candid revelation about this incident not only showcases her fearless nature but also sheds light on the challenges faced by actors in their pursuit of delivering captivating performances.
