'Ponniyin Selvan 2' trailer: Mani Ratnam's epic drama returns with intriguing action and a tale of revenge

Ponniyin Selvan, the first installment of renowned director Mani Ratnam's magnum opus, was one of the biggest box office hits of all time and completely captivated the audience. Not only did PS1 appeal to fans, but also to critics who praised its magnificent depiction of the Chola Dynasty, stellar star cast, and larger-than-life cinematography and writing. Ponniyin Selvan 2 has now released a trailer.

'Ponniyin Selvan' cast and trailer

A-list actors Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, and Jayam Ravi are all part of the film's star-studded ensemble cast.

The story opens with news of Arunmozhi Varman, also known as Ponniyin Selvan (Jayam Ravi), passing away. Aditha Karikalan (Vikram), who has been given the opportunity to control the other half of the Chola Kingdom, can be seen leading some dramatic action scenes in the next frame.

Arunmozhi Varman, also known as Ponniyin Selvan, appears to be alive, as evidenced by his response to "Nandini" when Kundavai (played by Trisha) asks who saved his life. Afterward, we witness Nandini making plans to exact revenge for her father's passing as she is heard declaring, "We will destroy the Cholas." Aditha Karikalan's love interest Nandini, who appears towards the end of the trailer, finally confronts him.

About 'Ponniyin Selvan 2'

Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's well-known novel about Raja Raja Chozhan's life, the Ponniyin Selvan movie is created. The first movie, which was based on a story by Mani Ratnam, Jeyamohan, and Kumaravel and was set in the 10th century, depicted how a fight for control amongst various Chola family lines began to lead to violent rifts. In the second movie, the plot is intended to be developed further, with the Cholas emerging as one of history's most enduring and rich empires, as well as the most powerful on the continent.

'Ponniyin Selvan 2' release date

Ponniyin Selvan 2 is presented by Subaskaran's Lyca Productions. Mani Ratnam directed the film, which Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions jointly produced. AR Rahman composed the music. On April 28, 2023, PS-2 will be released in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam all across the world.
