Will Smith issues a public apology to Chris Rock following the 'Oscars slap incident'

Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at Oscars 2022: Will Smith punching comedian Chris Rock at the Oscars 2022 has shocked people all over the world. Will Smith has apologised for slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars, calling his actions "unacceptable and inexcusable." The violent exchange between the two celebrities came as a response to a joke made about Will Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

"I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness" stated Will Smith as he apologizes to Chris Rock.

He further said, "I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us."

Chris Rock was on stage during the third hour of the show, presenting the award for Best Documentary. He made a joke about Pinkett-Smith being in the sequel to GI Jane. It appeared to be a remark about her shaven head.

The majority of the audience and celebrities have criticized the shocking celebrity incident, saying that violence shouldn't be used in response to a joke, no matter how offensive it is.

There were also claims that it was an instance of 'toxic masculinity,' because Smith felt compelled to 'protect' his wife when she was fully capable of doing so.

Likewise, several critics opined that it set a dangerous precedent for stand-up comedians who routinely target celebrities in their shows.

The Oscars organization announced in a statement prior to Smith's apology that they "condemns the actions" of Smith.
