On Friday after much hassle, 83 starring Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, was released in the theaters. The film is directed by Kabir Khan, who has directed first time a sport dram film. As compared to Spider-Man: No Way Home and Sooryavanshi, the film has not made that big mark on the box office first-day collection.
It’s been eight days since Spider-Man was released, and till now it has collected almost ₹150 crores.
On the first day of release, it is estimated that 83 has collected almost Rs.13-14 crore net. If reports are to be believed, in states like Gujarat and CP Berar, the film managed to make only 20% of Sooryavanshi.
It was Sooryavanshi that got all the cinema lovers back to the theaters in large numbers after the second lockdown. The film earned almost ₹26.29 crores on its first day of release in November. The film starred Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in the main lead with Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn’s cameo which was enough to get the audience to the theaters.
Spider-Man: No Way Home was released in December with ₹32 crore opening and has been ruling the theaters since then.
The film 83 is based on India’s historical win of 1983 were under the captainship of Kapil Dev, India won its first Cricket World Cup. The film includes other actors as well with Deepika Padukone playing the part of Kapil Dev’s wife Romy Bhatia.
Other than Spider-Man, 83 is facing competition from Shahid Kapoor starrer Jersey which is also a sports drama.
