From being declined a job in All India Radio to being hailed as the ‘Shahenshah of Bollywood, Star of the Millennium or Big B’, Amitabh Bachchan’s life story is nothing less than an extraordinary and inspiring tale of fantasy. Today on his 75th birth anniversary when most of his contemporaries have retired, he’s as active in Hindi Film Industry as he was in 1970’s or 1980’s.
Amitabh Bachchan who’s currently off to Maldives with his entire family for his Birthday is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including four National Film Awards as best actor, fifteen filmfare awards. Apart from that the Government of India bestowed him with Padma Shri award in 1984, Padma Bhushan in 2001 and Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
His prominence is not just limited to India; in 2007, the Government of France honoured him with its highest civilian award, Knight of the Legion of Honour for his exceptional contribution to the world of cinema. Amitabh Bachchan who rejected numerous Hollywood offers finally gave his nod for the role of a Jewish character of Meyer Wolfsheim in movie ‘The Great Gatsby’ which starred Holywood actor Leonardo Dicaprio in the lead role.
