The makers of the movie delighted fans with the release of an intriguing and captivating trailer which begins with a harrowing scene as a mine caves in on a group of miners deep underground.
Desperation fills the air as these brave souls plead for their lives. Meanwhile, above ground, Akshay Kumar, playing the role of a Sikh engineer, is all ready to launch a rescue mission. His character is willing to go to any lengths to save the trapped miners.
"Mission Raniganj" draws inspiration from the true-life events of Jaswant Singh Gill, who led India's first successful coal mine rescue. This brave man became a symbol of hope during a dark hour in the history of Raniganj's Mahabir Colliery on November 13, 1989.
On that fateful day, as miners went about their daily routine of extracting coal, disaster struck in the form of a rapid and unexpected underground flood caused by a ruptured groundwater level. A total of 220 miners found themselves trapped in the perilous depths of the mine, with their chances of survival dwindling by the second. Jaswant Singh Gill emerged as a beacon of hope.
Gill proposed a groundbreaking and unconventional rescue plan, a departure from traditional techniques. His innovative approach brought renewed hope to the desperate miners and set the stage for an incredible rescue mission.
Jaswant Singh Gill was born on November 22, 1937, in Sathiala, Amritsar. He pursued his education at Khalsa College, completing his studies in 1959. His life took a dramatic turn in 1991 when he was honored with the prestigious Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak for his extraordinary bravery. This accolade, presented by President Ramaswamy Venkataraman, underscored the magnitude of Gill's courageous feat.
"Mission Raniganj" not only showcases Akshay Kumar's compelling portrayal of Jaswant Singh Gill but also features Parineeti Chopra in a pivotal role. The film is backed by Pooja Entertainment and marks Tinu Suresh Desai's directorial venture, following his critically acclaimed "Rustom," which earned Akshay Kumar his first National award.
