Remembering Farooq Shaikh: Shabana Azmi Pens Emotional Note on His 10th Death Anniversary

Farooq Shaikh's death anniversary: On December 28, 2013, the entertainment world lost a gem as veteran actor Farooq Shaikh passed away. Ten years later, on the anniversary of his demise, his close friend and co-star, Shabana Azmi, took a trip down memory lane to share heartfelt memories of their time.

In a touching Instagram post, Shabana Azmi reminisced about their last performance together in front of the iconic Taj Mahal for the play 'Tumhari Amrita.' She vividly recalled the moment on December 14th when they concluded their 22-year journey with the play. Little did they know that it would be their final show together.

Sharing a photo of Farooq Shaikh, Shabana revealed the actor's response to the idea of ending 'Tumhari Amrita.' Farooq's spirited reply, "Why should we pull the curtains on Tumhari Amrita - we will do it for another 22 years!" became a poignant memory. Just 14 days later, Farooq left this world, marking the end of a profound 40-year friendship. Shabana expressed her deep sense of loss, stating, "I can never play Amrita again with my Zulfi gone. I miss you Firkee."

Shabana Azmi and Farooq Shaikh collaborated in the popular play 'Tumhari Amrita,' directed by Feroz Abbas Khan. Adapted from A.R. Gurney's play 'Love Letters,' the Hindi production follows the characters Amrita Nigam (Shabana Azmi) and Zulfikar Haider (Farooq Shaikh), who share their joys and sorrows through letters over the years.

Farooq Shaikh's Cinematic Journey:

Farooq Shaikh made his significant cinematic debut in the 1973 film 'Garam Hawa.' He went on to leave an indelible mark with roles in films like 'Noorie,' 'Chashme Buddoor,' 'Umrao Jaan Biwi Ho To Aisi,' and others. His talent also extended to hosting the first season of the TV show 'Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai,' for which he earned accolades. In 2010, he was honored with the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work in the sports film 'Lahore.'

While paying homage to Farooq Shaikh's legacy, Shabana Azmi shared the news of her upcoming project, 'Bun Tikki,' keeping the flame of creativity alive in the memory of her dear friend.
