Sanjay Dutt Refutes Rumours of Joining Politics Says, "I am not joining any party or contesting elections"

Bollywood icon Sanjay Dutt recently took to social media to clear the air surrounding rumors of his potential entry into politics. The renowned actor firmly denied any intentions of stepping into the political arena or contesting in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

In a candid post shared on X, Dutt addressed the speculations that had been circulating about his political ambitions. He asserted, "I would like to put all rumors about me joining politics to rest. I am not joining any party or contesting elections. If I do decide to step into the political arena then I will be the first one to announce it."

Emphasizing the importance of verifying information, Dutt urged his followers to refrain from trusting social media gossip. He cautioned, "Please refrain from believing what is being circulated in the news about me as of now."

The rumors had suggested that the 64-year-old actor might be eyeing a Congress ticket to contest in the Lok Sabha elections from Haryana's Karnal constituency. However, Dutt's clarification comes as a definitive statement against such claims.

This isn't the first time Dutt has been embroiled in political speculations. Back in 2019, he refuted claims made by Maharashtra Minister Mahadev Jankar about joining his party. Throughout his career, Dutt has primarily focused on his film endeavors and personal life.

Despite his avoidance of formal political roles, Dutt's family has had deep political roots. His father, the late veteran actor Sunil Dutt, was a respected Member of Parliament for the Congress party. Additionally, his sister Priya Dutt is actively involved in politics.

In 2009, Sanjay Dutt dipped his toes into politics by contesting as a Samajwadi Party candidate in the Lucknow Lok Sabha constituency. However, due to legal complications stemming from a conviction under the Arms Act, he had to withdraw his candidacy after the court declined to suspend his conviction. Though he briefly served as a general secretary within the party, he eventually resigned and distanced himself from formal political affiliations.
