Women, the other half of the population, have always been dealt with some difficult cards throughout history. The patriarchal society seems to prey upon the vulnerability of women, making them the victims of its malpractices. Though portrayed as the weaker gender, women have always trudged through the tragedies and come out victorious. Bollywood in the recent years has managed to celebrate and salute this spirit of womanhood and its empowerment. Queen - Vikas Bahl's 2013 Hindi drama is considered one of the most beautiful tales of women empowerment through the simplest of acts. A young woman left at the altar decides to go on her honeymoon alone and finds herself in an unknown country amongst people she has never met before. Mary Kom - Priyanka Chopra's Mary Kom is yet another sport biopic based on World class woman boxer Mary Kom hailing from Manipur, India. Despite an Indian patriarchal family, Mary Kom battles the obstacles that life throws at her and is able to reach the Olympics. It is a story dedicated to the undying spirit of womanhood.

English-Vinglish - Late Shri Devi's modern take on housewife's caliber is a Gauri Shinde directed movie that garnered praises from the movie critics all around the globe. The drama embroiled comedy is a fun take on how a housewife can turn things around if she puts her mind to it, without losing on the love and family equations.

Sarbjit – The 2016 Indian drama is another biopic depicting the tireless and unending love a sister can have for her brother and the lengths she will go to reverse his tragic fate. The story of Sarabjit Singh, the man who was wrongfully imprisoned in Pakistan for being a spy, is the finest example of how a sister will cross boundaries and turn the world upside down till she is heard. Dalbir Kaur, played by Aishwarya Rai Bachan, left no stone unturned to bring her brother back from the hell he was confined to.
