Sonakshi Sinha opens up about her character Fareedan in Heeramandi: Reflects on her same sex intimate scene from the series

Upon its release yesterday, on 1st May 2024, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar has oozed and whacked the Indian period drama fanatics, especially the ones who long for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's breathtaking grandeur finesse. The whopping drama series has roped off some of the most ethereal characters portrayed by the Indian actresses, and been able to impress audiences like absolutely none. The huge ensemble of female star casts included actresses from the starry front of Indian cinema like Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjida Sheikh, Richa Chadha, and Sharmin Segal.

Fareedan in Heeramandi sparks curiosities

With eight long episodes, the show is a sartorial slow-burning drama that has some iconic sequences that are made to remember, but one such scene of Sonakshi Sinha, who plays the vamp Fareedan in the series, stole lots of attention. People after witnessing the specific scene in one of its episodes became a sensational talk of the internet regarding Fareedan's sexuality. Recently during an interview, the Lootera actress was seen talking about the scene where Fareedan was engulfed in some same-sex intimate moments with her maid. As soon as the internet caught rare views, her character sparked curiosity and left people wondering if she was on the bright side of the sexuality and gender spectrum.

Sonakshi Sinha breaks silence on same-sex foreplay in Heeramandi

Recently while speaking to a renown media forum, the Heeramandi actress shared her vivid POV on Fareedan's character and the nature of her sexuality. While she was asked about the same, she said, "At that point in time, a lot of it did happen. And in a place like Heeramandi, people were very open about it. Even Ustadji is very openly a gay man. Sir wanted to explore it in different ways. What Fareedan has been through in her life also has impacted her in a way." As her character in the series was sold in the market of men at the age of 9, her go-throughs and suffering might have had been one of the core reason for eloping absolute hate for men. Agreeing to the same, Sonakshi quipped, "It could be that. They’ve left it very open. They didn’t explore it any further than that one scene where she meets Choudhary Saab and is with her maid. It’s just a very vast world and sir has tapped into different aspects of it in small ways."

Sonakshi on keeping her Heeramandi memories alive

Meanwhile, Sonakshi Sinha's character bagged a lot of praise and respect for her moving character of Fareedan, who wanted nothing but to destroy the murderer of her mother, Rehana. In fact, being an actress she has served and poured her art wholly as she turned SLB's one of a rare muse. As the whole series holds a special place in Sonakshi's life she has found a way to keep the memories alive as she took home the saree she wore in the song, Tilasmi Baahein. "I kept it. I told myself that I had to have it and I requested sir if I could keep it. The song turned out to be so special," she concluded.
