Happy birthday Malkit Singh: Here Are Some Rare Facts About The Legendary Singer

U.K based Punjabi singer Malkit Singh is the biggest selling Bhangra artist of all time. Malkit Singh stays true to his roots as he used to spread Punjabi music across continents in the early days of the career and is a major contributor to the industry’s current success.

He is famous for his most catchy and peppy numbers like ‘Gur Nal Ishq Mitha’, ‘Tootak Tootak Tootiyan’, ‘Jind Mahi’ among other songs. Today on his birthday, we will reveal rare facts about his life and success till date.

Here are some unknown facts about him:

Malkit Singh was born in Hussainpur, Punjab and later moved to Birmingham, England in 1984. From a very young age Malkit Singh had a major interest in singing and playing musical instruments. Before moving to England, Malkit used to study in Khalsa College in Jalandhar.

During the time he was pursuing his graduation, he met his Ustad-Professor Inderjit Singh.

He married Harbans Kaur Singh and the couple has a daughter named Armdip Bhopari.

Malkit Singh made his debut with the album “Nach Gidhe Wich”. The album was an all-time blockbuster with tracks such as “Gur Nal Ishq Mitha”, “Gal Sunja”, “Nach Gidhe Vich Kar Gai Kamaal”.

In 1997 he received the recognition from the city of Los Angles for services to the Indian community as the Best Punjabi Male Singer. Besides, his song ‘Tootak Tootak Thothiyan’ became the Most Outstanding Bhangra Track.

In 2008 Malkit Singh became a member of the Order of the British Empire after he received an MBE from the Queen for his services to Punjabi Music, making him the only Asian artist to have received this honour.

In 2012, he became the first Asian artist to be awarded a place on the Birmingham’s Walk of Stars. This special honour was given by the city of Birmingham in recognition of his global contribution to Bhangra music.

Earlier in 2019 singer Malkit Singh “Golden Star” was honoured by Lok Virasat Academy for his contribution and efforts being one of the first singers promoting Punjabi music on foreign shores.

Malkit has maintained his true Punjabi image throughout his career, which people have respected and can look up to him as a role model.
