International Turban Day 2019: Meet Fauja Singh, World’s Oldest Marathoner

International Turban Day is celebrated on 13th April all over the world. Sikhs worldwide organise various events to give information about the turban which is mandatory for Sikh religion. On the occasion of International Turban Day, here we are telling you a story about Fauja Singh, who is making Punjabis proud all over the world.

Fauja Singh is the world's oldest marathoner. He celebrated his 108th birthday on April 1. Popularly known as Turbaned Tornado, Fauja Singh ran his first marathon at the age of 89.

He rose to fame at 93 when he completed over 26 mile marathon in 6 hours, 54 minutes, almost an hour faster than previous world best in his age bracket. Besides, he also holds the world record for the fastest marathon by a centenarian.

In fact, he is the only centenarian in the world to run a marathon, in 2011, clocking 8:25:17.

For his remarkable achievement, Fauja Singh was awarded with Lifetime Achievement Award at PTC Punjabi Film Awards in 2018.
