Kangana Ranaut was photographed receiving the Padma Shri from President Ram Nath Kovind, draped in a gold saree. Kangana got the National Award for Best Actress for her roles in the films Manikarnika and Panga and was most recently seen in the Jayalalithaa biopic Thalaivi.

Adnan Sami was born in Pakistan and became a citizen of India in 2016.

"I started my career from a little hamlet in Himachal Pradesh, and for me to be in the same league as these bigwigs we have grown up watching, whether it is Karan Johar's films or Ekta Kapoor's serials...," Kangana had previously said of the honor. "Growing up, we knew these people. Who hasn't heard about Adnan Sami ji's music? It's a source of pride for a female like myself to be awarded a Padma Shri among them" she added.

When the honors list was revealed in January, his Padma Shri was heavily panned, with the Nationalist Congress Party calling it an "insult to 130 crore Indians" on Twitter, Mr. Sami blasted Congressman Jaiveer Shergill for referring to the singer's Padma award as "chamchagiri."

"Humbled and overwhelmed," producer Ekta Kapoor posted on Twitter. "My foray into the industry began when I was only 17 years old. I was frequently told that I was 'too young,' 'too raw,' and that making things happen was 'too soon.' I've learned over the years that it's never 'too late' to pursue your aspirations and that being 'too young' is generally the finest thing. I'm humbled today as I get the fourth highest civilian distinction, Padmashri."

"It's not very often that I am at a loss for words, but this is one of those times," Karan Johar wrote. He went on saying "Padma Shri is a prestigious award. Receiving one of the country's civilian awards is such an honor. Right now, I'm feeling overwhelmed by a slew of emotions. I'm humbled, happy, and grateful for the chance to live my dream every day, to create and amuse people. I'm sure my father would be proud, and I wish he could be here to witness it. #blessed.”
