New Zealand’s House Of Representative Honours Folk Singer Gurmeet Bawa

The house of representative of New Zealand recently honoured the well-known Punjabi folk singer, Gurmeet Kaur Bawa for her contribution to Punjabi folk singing around the world. She is also honoured for her record of exceptional accomplishments in folk music.

Gurmeet was honoured with the outstanding service to the Punjabi culture award.

Gurmeet Bawa has also won the Shromani Gayika Award for her Punjabi folk songs. She is known for her long breathless opening of a Punjabi folk song, known as hek, as she can hold it for about 45 seconds.

Among all this recognition, she was the first Punjabi female singer to sing on Doordarshan.
