#Respect: This Cop Has Spent Rs 30 Lakh In Last 6 Years To Make Sonepat Green Like Chandigarh

The trees around us are extremely important. Without trees, we humans would not be able to exist on this beautiful planet. Due to rapid urbanisation, many tress have been cut off and it has increased the pollution and temperature in major cities like Delhi, Haryana and Jammu among others.

To maintain this world clean and green there are many people across the globe who are working selflessly to maintain this planet as a beautiful place to live in. From them, there is one Chandigarh police constable who has been spending his entire salary to make his hometown Sonepat in Haryana greener and healthier.

Devender Sura, also known as tree man, is setting an example for others to make this planet a healthier place to live in.

According to a report in Indiatmes.com, Sura has spent over Rs 30 lakh from his own pocket since 2012 when he had started the initiative of planting trees.

With this drive, Sura is aiming to convert Sonepat as greener as Chandigarh.

“When I first saw Chandigarh after joining the force, I got mesmerised by the beauty of the city and certainly greenery was the core of that beauty. I thought of doing the same with my own city Sonepat,” Indiatimes.com quoted Sura as saying.

Sura is a married man and a proud father of two young kids. Still he is managing to feed them by spending all of his salary. Sura revealed that how he is managing to keep his ‘green’ initiative on.

“My salary is Rs 51 thousand and almost all get exhausted in this initiative. It was one of the reasons my family was against it, but I had decided what I have to do. My father is a guard in SBI and he gets his army pension which helps in taking care of the household.”

Sura is active on social media and he keep on posting pictures of planting trees at various places in Haryana. He has over 1,200 followers on Instagram.

Apart from Sonipat town, Sura’s initiative has now been spread to 152 village Panchayats in the district.

Sura deserves a lot of respect and salutes for his initiative. We should take him as an example and start planting trees around us!
