Anasuya Sengupta has etched her name in the annals of history at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Originating from Kolkata, she secured the prestigious title of the first Indian to clinch the Best Actress award at this esteemed event. Her remarkable performance in the film 'Shameless,' directed by Bulgarian filmmaker Konstantin Bozhanov, earned her this distinguished accolade. Portraying the character of a sex worker fleeing a brothel in Delhi after a fateful encounter with a policeman, Anasuya captivated audiences and critics alike with her poignant portrayal.

Recognized as the Best Actress in the Un Certain Regard segment, Anasuya seized the opportunity to shine a spotlight on the resilience of LGBTQ and marginalized communities worldwide. In a heartfelt acceptance speech, she underscored the universal plea for equality, irrespective of personal identity, advocating for empathy and decency above all.

Anasuya, hailing from Kolkata, has carved a niche for herself as a talented production designer based in Mumbai. The Cannes Film Festival of 2024 marked a momentous occasion for India. Notably, Shyam Benegal's 'Manthan' received a special screening at the festival, nearly five decades since its initial release. Adding to the triumph, films by Mansi Maheshwari from Meerut and students from FTII secured prestigious awards, further illuminating India's cinematic prowess on the global stage.

Directed and penned by Konstantin Bozhanov, the film 'Shameless' delves into the journey of Renuka, who escapes the confines of a brothel in Delhi following the tragic demise of a police officer. Alongside Renuka's narrative, the film intricately explores her relationship with Omara Shetty, her devoted lover.
