Twitter upholds two farmers' handles 'Tractor 2 Twitter' and 'Kisan Ekta Morcha'

Day after late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala's song 'SYL' was removed from YouTube in India following a legal complaint by the government, Twitter has withheld two farmers' handles 'Tractor 2 Twitter' and 'Kisan Ekta Morcha.

Upon opening the Twitter accounts of 'Tractor 2 Twitter' and 'Kisan Ekta Morcha', a notification reads, "... account has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand."

Taking to Twitter, farmer leader Harmeet Singh Kadian wrote: "Freedom of speech is a human right and the foundation upon which democracy is built. Any restriction of freedom of speech is a restriction upon democracy. To withheld 'Kisan Ekta Morcha' and 'Tractor 2 Twitter' is direct attack on freedom to speech of farmers.

The development comes a day after Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala's song 'SYL' was removed from YouTube in India following a legal complaint by the government.

Soon after the song was removed, a lot of people criticised YouTube for taking the song down as it was the first song of Sidhu Moose Wala to have been released posthumously.

It  may be recalled that the Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead on May 29 in the Jawaharke village of Punjab's Mansa district.

Some assailants came and opened fire at Sidhu Moose Wala while he was travelling in his car with two of his friends.
