World Mental Health Day: Bollywood celebrities who openly discussed their depression and anxiety

Depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and suicidal thoughts are terms that most of us use casually, but those who deal with them understand what it truly means to be in a mental quagmire. It is not a joke to walk aimlessly, sleep with horror, and wake up with guilt.

Today as we celebrate World Mental Health Day, so here's a list of our Bollywood celebrities who have battled mental illness and emerged victorious to tell their story. From Deepika Padukone to Yo Yo Honey Singh, these celebrities have openly talked about their depression and anxiety struggles.

Anushka Sharma

Anushka has a successful career and a wonderful family, but she, too, has struggled with mental illness. Anushka had admitted to suffering from anxiety in 2017, in response to a quote about depression on Twitter.

Deepika Padukone

She is a depression survivor who is working to improve people's lives through her organization, The Live Love Laugh Foundation. It was in 2015, during an interview with NDTV, that she opened up about her battle with depression. Deepika revealed that she was diagnosed with depression in 2014, and that her mother was concerned about her because of her sudden breakdown. Deepika told PTI in 2018 that she is concerned about a relapse of her depression.

Shah Rukh Khan

King Khan has won many hearts as the 'King of Romance,' and he has a beautiful family with his wife, Gauri Khan, and their three children, Aryan Khan, Suhana Khan, and Abraham Khan. However, when SRK tore a ligament in his shoulder in 2008, he went into a deep depression. Shah Rukh Khan recalibrated in a 2010 interview.

Shamita Shetty

Shamita wrote about her battle with depression after Sushant Singh Rajput died in 2020, urging everyone to find their inner strength, channel it, and confront it head-on to win the battle with mental health. She'd written a lengthy note about her battle with depression, describing the effects of mental illness in vivid detail.

Yo Yo Honey Singh

Yo Yo Honey Singh's life has seen peaks in his career that no one has seen before. He had introduced rap music to mainstream cinema and made it an integral part of it. However, his life has been marred by some heinous controversies. Honey Singh had been out of the spotlight for quite some time, and it wasn't until 2017, in an interview that he revealed the reason for his absence.
