Bollywood mourns the loss of Pamela Chopra, wife of late filmmaker Yash Chopra, dies at 74
Pamela Chopra, a well-known Indian playback singer, film writer, and producer, passed away on April 20, 2023, at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai at the age of 74. She was the wife of the late filmmaker Yash Chopra and the mother of film producer and director Aditya Chopra and actor and film producer Uday Chopra.

According to reports, Pamela Chopra was admitted to the hospital for the past 15 days and was put on a ventilator by doctors, but her health deteriorated. She was cremated in Mumbai on the same day, and several Bollywood celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Rakesh Roshan, Sonu Nigam, and Rani Mukerji, attended her funeral to offer their condolences.
Pamela Chopra was a talented singer who lent her voice to several film songs, all of which were for her husband's films, from Kabhie Kabhie in 1976 to Mujhse Dosti Karoge! in 2002. She was also a film writer and producer in her own right. The 1993 film Aaina was independently produced by her, and she co-wrote the script of her husband's 1997 film Dil To Pagal Hai, along with Yash Chopra, Aditya Chopra, and professional writer Tanuja Chandra.
Pamela Chopra was last seen in the YRF documentary The Romantics, where she spoke about her husband's journey in the Hindi film industry and her own contributions. On the show, she recounted the days when her husband faced many sleepless nights before the release of his first film as a producer (Daag, 1973). Yash Chopra often reached out to his wife to understand how the female perspective works.
Pamela and Yash Chopra were married in 1970 in a traditional ceremony, which was arranged by their families. Together, they had two sons, Aditya and Uday Chopra. Aditya Chopra followed in his father's footsteps and became a successful film producer and director. He is married to actress Rani Mukerji. Uday Chopra is an actor and film producer.
The Chopra family released a statement confirming Pamela Chopra's death and requesting privacy during this moment of deep sadness and reflection. The statement read, "With heavy hearts, the Chopra family would like to inform that Pamela Chopra, 74, passed away this morning. Her cremation took place at 11 am today in Mumbai. We are grateful for your prayers and request for privacy in this moment of deep sadness and reflection."
Pamela Chopra's contributions to the Hindi film industry will always be remembered, and she will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and fans.
