Pathaan 2 CONFIRMED? Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone to Return with New Director

Pathaan 2: After nearly five years of waiting, Shah Rukh Khan fans were ecstatic when he returned to the big screen with "Pathaan" in January 2023. The movie marked a revival of his superstar status, drawing crowds to theatres like a carnival. Now, the news of a sequel, "Pathaan 2," doesn’t come as a surprise, given the frenzy surrounding the first instalment.

Is Pathaan 2 in the making?

However, what's unexpected is the revelation that Siddharth Anand will not be directing the sequel, signalling a shift in Aditya Chopra’s strategy for the Yash Raj Films' spy universe. This decision hints at Chopra's plan to diversify the directorial talent within the franchise, similar to his approach with the "Tiger" series.

The YRF Spy Universe, which already includes a crossover between Salman Khan's "Tiger" and Shah Rukh Khan's "Pathaan," along with an upcoming spy drama featuring Alia Bhatt, is now set to expand further. Reports suggest that "Pathaan 2" will be developed as a standalone project, akin to the "Tiger" franchise.

Aditya Chopra aims to commence filming for "Pathaan 2" by the end of 2024, and the search for a new director is underway. While Siddharth Anand won't be helming the sequel, this decision aligns with Chopra's pattern of assigning different directors to each installment within the franchise.

For instance, the "Tiger" series has seen different directors for each film, and even "War," directed by Anand, won't see him returning for the sequel. Instead, Ayan Mukerji has been tapped to helm "War 2." Similarly, Chopra is now focusing on selecting the right director for "Pathaan 2."
