Veteran Actress and Politician Jaya Prada Faces 6 Months Jail Term in Chennai
Jaya Prada news: Chennai court has sentenced well-known actress and former member of parliament Jaya Prada to six months in prison. A complaint brought by the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) against the actress resulted in the court also fining her Rs 5,000. Ram Kumar and Raja Babu, two of Jaya Prada's business associates, were convicted in the same case.
A formal statement concerning this judgment has not yet been made by Jaya Prada's legal team. The actress, who has gained notoriety in both Bollywood and South Indian films, formerly ran a movie theater in Chennai. After she failed to pay the ESIC that had been taken from the salaries, the theater was shut down.
Despite the theater's closure, the employees alleged that the money they withheld was never sent to the Government Insurance Corporation. As a result of their legal complaint, the court determined to imprison Jaya Prada for a period of six months.
By appealing to the Madras High Court, both Jaya Prada and the theater's management attempted to address the issue through the legal system. Unfortunately, their pleas were rejected, which resulted in the Egmore court session that followed. Jaya Prada volunteered to work out a deal with the workers to settle the debt during this hearing. The ESIC's legal representative denied the request, and as a result, the judge sentenced the actress to a six-month prison term.
In addition to this, several years ago, Jaya Prada and her two friends who operated a movie theater in Chennai shut down due to financial problems. The employees of the theaters also filed a lawsuit against the partners claiming that they had failed to reimburse them for the funds withheld for Employees' State Insurance.
