Anil Kapoor Personality Rights: Delhi High Court Restricts Unauthorized Use of His Identity
In a significant legal development, the Delhi High Court has issued an interim order to safeguard the rights and identity of renowned actor Anil Kapoor. The court's decision, delivered by Justice Prathiba M Singh, restrains social media platforms, e-commerce websites, and individuals from infringing upon Anil Kapoor's personality and publicity rights.
The court's ruling is clear: unauthorized platforms are prohibited from using Anil Kapoor's name, voice, image, or even his famous dialogues for any illegal commercial purposes. This order serves as a protective shield against the misuse of the actor's persona for financial gain.
Specifically, the court has forbidden the use of Anil Kapoor's name, likeness, voice, or any aspect of his identity for the creation of merchandise, ringtones, or any other commercial products. Moreover, the court has taken a proactive stance against the use of artificial intelligence tools to alter or morph Anil Kapoor's image, as well as the use of his image in GIFs for monetary gains or commercial purposes, where such activities might infringe upon Kapoor's rights.
Additionally, the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) has been directed to issue a blocking order against pornographic content that uses manipulated images of the actor. This move underscores the court's commitment to protecting Anil Kapoor's reputation and preventing any further misuse of his identity.
Anil Kapoor, in his suit before the court, expressed concerns about the misuse of artificial intelligence to tarnish his hard-earned reputation and goodwill. He argued that such actions infringed upon his exclusive rights to benefit commercially from his persona.
