'Haddi' movie: Did you know Nawazuddin Siddiqui tried 80 sarees to finalise his look as 'transgender'?
Nawazuddin Siddiqui, the renowned actor, has left audiences both stunned and divided with his groundbreaking portrayal of a transgender person in the highly anticipated film 'Haddi'. The unveiling of his character's appearance has garnered global attention, captivating Bollywood enthusiasts with his remarkable transformation.
However, creating the distinctive look for the movie proved to be a painstaking process, consuming nearly six months of dedicated effort from the production crew. Producers Sanjay Saha and Raadhika Nanda shed light on the challenges they encountered during the early stages of development. Nanda revealed that initially, it took approximately 30 minutes just to drape a saree on Nawazuddin, and the entire ensemble took nearly three hours to complete.
Nawazuddin, who had never worn a saree before, had to endure hours of continuous filming to maintain the character's appearance consistently. While the team strived to achieve a natural look, the use of prosthetics was also employed to enhance the character's realism. Nanda expressed, "Siddiqui wore a saree for the first time," emphasizing the dedication he put into his performance. Hours were spent filming in the same saree ensemble, meticulously maintaining a natural appearance while utilizing prosthetics.
Nanda further added, "Throughout the entire shoot, we went through approximately 80 sarees. Siddiqui was overwhelmed when he first caught a glimpse of himself in the mirror, completely transformed. It allowed him to delve deeper into his character's essence and gain a profound understanding of the challenges faced by women in performing their daily household duties. It took us several trials with different makeup artists until we finally achieved the desired looks, a process that spanned about six months."
"Haddi" revolves around the compelling story of Hari, a young boy from a rural town who aspires to embrace his identity as a woman. The film delves into the rich history and experiences of transgender individuals in India, shedding light on their struggles and triumphs.
