Basant Panchami 2024: The Significance of Saraswati Puja and Home Decluttering

February 14th, Wednesday, marks the celebration of Saraswati Puja, also known as Basant Panchami. This auspicious day holds great significance in Hindu culture as it venerates Goddess Saraswati, the embodiment of knowledge, wisdom, and learning. Alongside the worship rituals, there exists a tradition of decluttering certain items from homes, guided by the belief that Goddess Saraswati does not inhabit spaces filled with old books or disorder. Instead, she illuminates homes where specific elements are absent. Astrologer sheds light on the significance of this tradition and the rationale behind it.

On Basant Panchami, it is advised to promptly remove old, cluttered, or torn books from your home. According to tradition, Goddess Saraswati avoids dwelling where aged or damaged books linger, as knowledge fails to thrive in such environments. Success finds difficulty in reaching these homes, hence the importance of creating an atmosphere conducive to learning and growth.

Furthermore, it is recommended to refrain from retaining malfunctioning equipment at home on Basant Panchami. Whether it's laptops, mobiles, tablets, or other devices utilized for work or education, it is deemed inauspicious to harbor faulty equipment at home during Saraswati Puja. Ensuring that such devices are either repaired immediately or removed from the premises aligns with the idea of inviting prosperity and auspiciousness into one's life.

On this sacred day, it is also advisable not to retain images of Goddess Saraswati at home if they are damaged. If one possesses a fractured idol or picture of Goddess Saraswati, it is recommended to remove it from the residence on Saraswati Puja day and submerge it in a sacred river. This act is believed to mitigate any potential obstacles to progress and prevent significant vastu defects in the home.

By understanding the underlying reasons behind these customs, individuals can actively participate in creating an environment that fosters learning, growth, and prosperity.
