Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt opens up about his alcohol addiction; Here's why he left drinking forever?

Mahesh Bhatt is one of the most prolific directors of the Bollywood industry who has made his own space of filmmaking over the years. The man is in-fact known for serving some of the Bollywood's ultra cult movies like Aashique, Zakhm, Sadak, Saaraansh and many others. Apart of filmmaking, Bhatt is also a proud family man with three daughters and a loving wife Soni Razdan. During a recent interview, the filmmaker was heard speaking about his roller coaster life, highest of his highs including the degrading lows. The conversation also gave light to his mad fondness for alcoholism during the early years and his journey of erasing alcohol from his life comletely.

Mahesh Bhatt's severe addiction with Alcoholism

During a recent interview with a renown media forum, Mahesh Bhatt has accepted his unabhashed addiction of alcohol which he stated as 'severe problem with alcohol'. It was during the leading success of his laddering career, the time when Arth and Saaransh were appealing the masses, he mentioned. But it was also during the period when his first marriage crumbled and during second marriage with Soni Razdan. Although an alcohol addict then, he had to leave drinking which was a 'severe' battle for him. But his decisioin of leaving alcohol didn't come overnight as it was one of his daughter, who became the one trajectory raeson for such a decision. 

Shaheen Bhatt became his core reason for giving up drinking? 

As per th filmmaker, it was his first child born with Razdan, Shaheen Bhatt who gave him the pillar of the core reason. Shaheen Bhatt, being Mahesh's fist child became an integral part of the household. Bhatt recalls, it was during the pre-birth phase when Soni use to request him to leave alcohol for few days ahead of their daughter's birth, which he did but he even confesssed that after she returned with their daughter, he drank for the whole night which eventually changed the man's perspective forever.

It was during the time while Carrying the 'frail little child' on his arms, when he leans down to kiss her, she moves away, he gasped. "I felt I couldn’t have my newborn baby turn away from me. Life was telling me something through this child. That was grace. I gave up drinking. I never touched a drop of alcohol after that. People would wonder, 'Oh it is impossible, Mahesh Bhatt can’t stop drinking.' But I did. I didn't go to any doctor, took some pill, and went to AA. I just gave it up. Daddy was born there — the daughter who becomes the trigger for the father," he spoke off unabashedly.
