On the occasion of Martyr’s day today on March 23, the three revolutionary heroes Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru were hanged to death by British Raj. The day marks the 88th Martyrdom of these three heroes.
While a lot of movies have been made in the honor of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, a few have made a powerful impact on the audience. More than the movies, it was the lead heroes like Ajay Devgn, Manoj Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and Sonu Sood who have left an imprint in the minds of the audience.
Shammi Kapoor played the role of Bhagat Singh in the movie ‘Shaheed Bhagat Singh’. While it was refreshing for the audience to watch him in a revolutionary role, the movie couldn’t do well at the box office.
‘Shaheed’ was Manoj Kumar‘s first of a series of patriotic films, released in 1965. It is one of the most prominent movies based on Indian independence, winning three national awards.
Sonu Sood was next seen as Bhagat Singh in ‘Shaheed-E-Azam’ in the year 2002. The year released three movies, depicting the life of Bhagat Singh, out of which Sonu Sood’s movie failed to work at the box-office.
After Sonu Sood, Bobby Deol was seen in ‘Shaheed’ in the same year. The movie failed miserably at the box-office, but was well received critically.
Ajay Devgn‘s ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’ was by far the best depiction of Bhagat Singh’s life. The movie went on to win 2 National Awards and 3 Filmfare Awards. Ajay Devgn was praised by the audience and critics for his amazing performance and doing complete justice to the role of Bhagat Singh.
Who do you think played the character of Bhagat Singh best?
