Singer-composer-rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh needs no introduction. Honey Singh has conquered the Indian music industry with his exceptional music and unmatched style. Today, in this article will showcase how a small town boy Hirdesh Singh went on to become a sensational rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh.

Birth & Early Life

Yo Yo Honey Singh’s real name is Hirdesh Singh. He was born on March 15, 1983 in Punjab, in a small town, Hoshiarpur, to a Sikh family. His family later moved to Delhi. He did his schooling from Guru Nanak Public School, Punjab Bagh.

Besides, he also has a degree in music. The singer- song composer studied music at the Trinity School in the United Kingdom.

Honey Singh began his journey in the music industry as a recording artist and later went on to produce and sing Punjabi songs.

Career

Reportedly, Yo Yo Honey Singh started singing in 2011. His 2012 son ‘Brown Rang’ was his biggest hit. ‘Brown Rang’ was the first Punjabi song to ever trend at #1 on YouTube.

Since then, he has been treating the music lovers with hit songs like ‘Angrezi beat’, ‘Luck 28 kudi da’ and others.

The origin of Yo Yo Honey Singh

Reportedly, Honey Singh borrowed the term “Yo-Yo” from his African American friends. While talking to Mid-day, Honey Singh said: “The word 'Yo Yo' is a slang which means 'Apka Apna'. I opted for this prefix with my name to make it sound unique and see, I am famous now with 'Yo Yo'!"

Remains absent from stardom for 4 years

While he was out of action, reports of him being treated at a rehabilitation centre started emerging. However, he clarified that he was suffering from bipolar disorder.

Back with bang in 2018

Honey Singh made a remarkable comeback as he treated his fans with back to back superhit songs. He began the year with songs like ‘DIl chori sada ho gaya’ and ‘Chote chote peg’. He then made his comeback on screen with song ‘Makhna’. The music video features Honey Singh on screen after a gap of 4 long years.

Love & Marriage

Honey Singh married his childhood friend, Shalini Talwar. The two studied at the same school and were classmates. Apparently, it was love at first sight, which continued silently forever.
