Happy Birthday Prem Chopra: Know Some Lesser Known Facts About The Legend

Prem Chopra is an Indian actor, who has worked predominantly in Hindi and Punjabi cinema. The actor has acted in over 380 films in the time span of over 60 years. Born in September 23, 1935, he was brought up in Shimla.

As the actor celebrates his 84^th birthday today, we bring you some lesser known facts about him.

Prem Chopra took part in college dramatics enthusiastically. He completed his graduation from Punjab University and later moved on to Mumbai to pursue his passion.

Despite stiff opposition from his parents, he managed to go to Mumbai to pursue his dream of acting in Bollywood films.

He took up a job at Times of India while surviving in Mumbai.

During his stint with the Times of India, he worked in Punjabi films including Sapani and Hindi films such as Woh Kaun Thi?, Shaheed, Main Shaadi Karne Chala and Teesri Manzil.

He later started being a leading villain in Hindi films and his peak villain role lasted from 1967-1994.

After 1995, he appeared as a villain in very few films. He took up positive character roles from 1996 and started getting more positive roles from 2005. His screen space got reduced in the films after 2005.

Apart from professional space, his life has been a roller-coaster, in terms of his personal space.

His biography titled Prem Naam Hai Mera, Prem Chopra, written by his daughter Rakita Nanda, was released in April 2014.

He was recently awarded with the Special Recognition Award and his contribution to the Indian cinema.
