Remembering ‘Nightingale of Punjab’ Surinder Kaur On Her 13th Death Anniversary

Surinder Kaur, who passed away at the age of 77, was one of the most popular Punjabi folk singers. Surinder Kaur, who was born in Lahore, made her professional debut with a live performance on Lahore Radio in August 1943. In the same year, she recorded her first song along with her sister. Following then, she became a household name. Still, no Punjabi wedding is complete without playing her songs.

After the partition in 1947, Surinder Kaur moved to Delhi with her parents.

Popularly referred to as the "Nightingale of Punjab", Surinder Kaur was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2006.

Surinder Kaur, who breathed her last on 14 June 2006, has left more than 2,000 recorded songs. On this day, let’s have a look at some unknown facts about the legend Surinder Kaur.
