Short Film ‘Devi’ Depicting Crime Against Women Is Trending On The Internet

The film ‘Devi’ was released by ‘LargeShort Films’ nearly twenty one hours ago and it is surprising to know that it has fetched 1.5 million views in such a short span of time. The film has been released at an apt time, right before few days of ‘Women’s Day’ making it more special.

What Is The Story All About?

The film is written and directed by Priyanka Banerjee, a woman with great calibre. The director of photography is also a lady i.e Savita Singh. So, the film seems to be ‘OF THE WOMEN’, ‘BY THE WOMEN’ but not ‘FOR THE WOMEN’ . It is indeed ‘FOR ALL’.

The film’s story revolves around the hypocrisy the society follows. On one hand, the women are worshiped but on the other hand, raped. The film in the end observes a total blackout followed by the text which says, ‘It is ironic that crime rates against women are higher in a nation where nearly 80% of the population worships goddesses.’

Meet The Star Cast

The film ‘Devi’ has only ‘Devis’ as the star cast making it a film running on the shoulders of female actresses. The leading ladies have given great performances. From the veteran actress Neena Kulkarni to Kajol, from Shruti Hassan to Neha Dhupia, from Rama Joshi to Mukta Bharve, all of them have raised the bar of the film. Each one of the actresses from the star cast has managed to create an impact within the thirteen minutes of the film.

This short film represents the horrifying condition of the women in the modern society. Unfortunately the film wraps up amidst the tears of the women. It is a worth watch!
