Dhanteras 2021: Know the Significance and Importance of this auspicious day

Dhanteras, which falls two days before Diwali, is considered one of the most important Hindu festivals.

Dhanteras is made up of two words: Dhan (wealth) and Teras (thirteen). The festival is held on the thirteenth day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik, when the Goddess of Wealth, Maa Lakhsmi, is worshipped. This festival, also known as Dhantrayodashi, takes place on the first day of the five-day Diwali festival.

The Importance of Dhanteras 2021

To obtain Amrita (the divine nectar of immortality), the Devas and Asuras churned the sea (Samudra manthan). Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the ocean of milk during the churning of the sea on the day of Dhantrayodashi. On this day, people worship Goddess Lakshmi. On this day, Lord Kubera, the god of wealth, is also worshipped. Lakshmi Puja is more important on Amavasya, the day before Diwali.

Lakshmi Puja is performed in the evening on Dhanteras, and clay diyas are left lit overnight. Goddess Lakshmi is given prasad, which is traditional sweets. Three forms of Goddess Lakshmi are worshipped during the puja: Goddess MahaLakshmi, Goddess Kaali, and Goddess Saraswati. On this day, the gods Kuber and Ganesha are also worshipped.

Some do’s and don’ts you must know beforehand

Dos

On this day, cleanliness is essential. T is important to clean the entire house.

Because waste and garbage are considered a source of negative energy, they should be disposed of.

On Dhanteras, Lakshmi Puja should be performed during Pradosh Kaal.

Yamadeep is a ritual that must be followed, in which a lamp is lit outside the home to ward off any untimely death in the family.

Purchase gold during the auspicious times specified in the panchaang.

Don'ts

Because clay or silver idols are considered auspicious, avoid worshipping glass or POP idols.

Because it is a festival to welcome Goddess Lakshmi, do not leave footwear at the front door.

It is believed that on the day of Dhanteras, no money should be borrowed or lent.

Puja rituals should be performed with joy, so that negative thoughts are not spread throughout the house.
