What happened in Raniganj in 1989?

The events that unfolded in Raniganj on that fateful day are etched into history. At Raniganj's Mahabir Colliery, a shocking incident happened on November 13, 1989. The daily chore of planning explosions to extract coal was being dutifully carried out by the miners. The underground groundwater level broke away, causing significant flooding, however, this was an unexpected and rapid disaster.

220 miners were stranded in the dangerous depths of the mine, their chances of survival shrinking by the second, and their lives were hanging in the balance. Jaswant Singh Gill became a ray of hope at this turning point. Gill put forth a brilliant and unusual suggestion that was a notable departure from traditional rescue techniques.
