Meet Sarabjot Singh: 17-Year-Old Who Made Us Proud By Winning Gold At ISSF Junior WC

Sarabjot Singh has made the whole nation proud as he clinched the gold medal in the men’s 10m air pistol event at the Junior Shooting World Cup in Germany on July 18. Sarabjot shot a 239.6 to bag the country’s ninth yellow metal. Also, this is his 1st World Cup medal.

Hailing from the village Dhin near Ambala, Sarabjot is a 17-yr-old son of a farmer Jatinder Singh Sahanserwal. His family had to make a lot of sacrifices for Sarabjot to be a champion.

“Two months after he started training, he wanted a new pistol that was worth Rs 1.5 lakh. I had to borrow money from the village commission agent, to whom we sell the crop from our 4-acre farm,” said the old farmer to Indian Express.

Sarabjot had his first experience in this sport in 2014 while studying in School, as he joined the School shooting camp. While the coach saw potential in him, he asked him to stick to the sport. Two years later, the winner of ISSF Junior World Cup joined the Shooters Terrace Shooting Academy in Ambala that was run by the former India pistol shooter Abhishek Rana.

The 17-yr-old shooter beat China as he took his time on the last shot on Thursday, before winning the gold for the nation.

Meanwhile, Twitteratis are pouring congratulatory messages for the young lad!

Congratulations Sarabjot for winning your first gold!
